Obama’s Ban On Relics

( — Barack Obama’s new strategy for attacking gun owners specifically targets collectors and competitors by blocking returns of surplus military rifles over six decades old, and reveals his extremist anti-gun attitude, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said last week.

The president’s new gun control measures, announced by Vice President Joe Biden, will prevent the recovery of thousands of military-surplus M-1 Garand rifles that are valued by collectors, competitors and historic reenactors. These firearms were loaned or donated to South Korea decades ago.

“This is an outrage,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “and the only people being hurt are law-abiding citizens. If there were any doubt about the level of anti-gun extremism in the Obama administration, this announcement just put those doubts to rest.”

There is pending legislation, H.R. 2247, the “Collectible Firearms Protection Act” sponsored by Rep. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) that would prevent this, he noted.

This new prohibition will have far-reaching effects on all kinds of curio and relic firearms. Such firearms have considerable historic significance and value to American firearms aficionados, and there is no evidence that such firearms have ever been favored by criminals.

Gottlieb said, “This ruling also sends a message to the firearms industry, and particularly importers, that this administration cannot be trusted. The president is taking out his frustration for being unable to pass his gun control agenda, and the only people who will suffer are citizens who would never break the law with any of these firearms. Punishing innocent people may be the Chicago way, but it’s not the American way, or the way an American president ought to lead.”

Like a spoiled little brat getting even because of his failure to ban weapons of about any kind. Take it out on the most law abiding. Kinda proves where he is coming from. Lame Duck status can’t come soon enough. What a pi$$ ant.

Its going to be a long three years!

  3. Mario Sr. says:

Why not do an “End-of-round” number like OUR government plays by doing the following:
As the South Korean Government to create a CMP equivalent and sell to qualifying individuals of Korean AND American origin these US made weapons! The not en masse qualifier ought to get the US DOS out of the picture They could sell them in pieces if necessary. I’d take my Garand that way…YOU BETCHA! Come on Korea. Get creative!

    • Winston says:

South Koreans can’t legally own any guns, LOL. Just buy something else. The 1989 Ban Bush I signed doomed the Garand deal, really.

  4. Randy says:

If this pisses you off, do what I did – go to the White House website and sign the petition against this idiotic edict. If we get 100,000 signatures, he has to publicly respond to us.

  5. dave says:

Total abuse of authority and attack on commerce. The next president will terminate this abuse. Until then we can wait.

    • Winston says:

The GOP isn’t going to bring home the Garands. LOL. Bush II didn’t do it with a GOP controlled Congress. That deal has been simmering for a decade, and has now gone cold.

  6. Winston says:

Reagan, Bush I , Clinton, Bush II all banned certain imported rifles, physical features, and or ammunition. Bush II never made a move to approve the South Korean Garands while president. Obama is following Reagan’s precedent. Many gun owners seem to have short memories when it comes to the GOP venting at Obama which is not undeserved mind you, it’s just what he’s done is nothing new.

  7. mike says:

We as gun owners will play follow the so called leader. What I mean by that is do what oblama does: we the voting public vote on things and if he doesn’t like it he goes a head and over rules it, even though the majorty has spoken.
We as gun owners need to make our own rules and especially as collectors not listen to this garbage.
The people, gun owners and collectors have spoken; I am over ruling and putting into effect immideatly that we don’t need to listen to this so called president any longer.

  8. Gregory Pierpoint says:

My understanding is that South Korea wants to sell them on the open market for profit instead of returning them to the U.S. Army and CMP as required by law at the time we lent the guns to them and about 28 other nations. Most of them have complied, like Greece, Germany, United States citizens meeting certain qualifications may purchase U.S. military surplus M1 rifles through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). The CMP is run by the Corporation for the Promotion of Rifle Practice and Firearms Safety (CPRPFS), a not-for-profit corporation chartered by the United States Congress in 1996 to instruct citizens in marksmanship and promote practice and safety in the use of firearms.[55] The group holds a congressional charter under Title 36 of the United States Code. From 1903 to 1996, the CMP was sponsored by the Office of the Director of Civilian Marksmanship (DCM), a position first within the Department of War and later in the Department of the Army. The DCM was normally an active-duty Army colonel.

In 2009, an effort by the South Korean government to sell about 850,000 firearms to Americans, including 87,000 M1 rifles, was initially approved by the Obama administration, but it blocked the sale in March 2010.[56] A State Department spokesman said the administration’s decision was based on concerns that the guns could fall into the wrong hands and be used for criminal activity.[56] However, in January 2012, two nations agreed on sale of 87,000 M1 Garand rifles, and the government of Korea is in discussion with U.S. civilian arm dealers.[57] Korea has a record of selling tens of thousands of M1 Garand rifles to the U.S. civilian market between 1986 to 1994.[57]

    I propose operation clean sweep.

Quite simply, during the next congressional election, vote for anyone but the incumbents, regardless of party. Start over from scratch. I know we feel powerless to the system at times. We must remember that we still have the power to vote. This power can and must be used to stem this tide.

This is not just about gun rights, as I’m sure you know.

  10. VT Patriot says:

You know if “2 blasts Biden” is announcing this, it’s just a continuation of a very bad joke gone wrong. The day is on the horizon for this organizer in chief to be removed from office, forcably by our military if necessary. This world does not need a repeat of Germany in the ’30s.

  11. Larry Farris says:

Am I the only one who has been writing (weekly), their U.S. House of Representatives member, asking them to co-sponsor and support Rep. Cynthia Lummis’ H.R. 2247?

    Honorable Sam Johnson,
I am writing to encourage you to add your name to the co-sponsors of Rep. Cynthia Lummis’ HR 2247. This proposal gets the State Department out of the loop for approving the re-importation of M1 Garand’s from foreign countries (specifically Korea, at present). The State Department is the main culprit in holding up this long-standing program of the Civilian Marksmanship Program. HR 2247 has been referred to the House Ways and Means and the House Foreign Affairs. Approval to re-introduce this historical firearm to American collectors is sorely needed. Would you please support this effort (and help get it moving)?

  12. John says:

And how does he have this power? We need to get rid of all that trash in DC . They think they are the rulers and we, their slaves. Term limits, no pension, no health care (SS like the rest of us, and live by the laws they create. I have been saying this since I got back from Vietnam.

  13. Peter says:

It’s all in the presentation. Biden, the oracle of gun ownership, stated only that this wise move by his boss/savior would “keep military-grade weapons off our streets”. To the average ignorant / stupid citizen, this sounds like a good idea and they throw more flower petals at their emperor’s feet.

  14. Don845 says:

This, Dictator is tearing apart our constitution. Exile the rat to Gitmo! What’s next, John Wayne is posthumously gonna become public enemy number one for his use of a colt 45, and lever gun? This is by far the least important thing this man can give attention to, our economy is a shambles , real unemployment, not their contrived numbers, foreclosers, bankruptcies, violent crime in his gun free zones, twice as high, Syiria? All things should be attended to by this “leader of the free world, (my foot)” this dictator instead says , no you law abiding collectors of guns that are here already, can’t no more! Him, Bloomberg, Fienstein, and Cuomo, as well as a few more, should be tried for treason, not just impeached or recalled, for acts of terrorism against our Constitution, our American way of life! They could be hung, ( he might outlaw rope, if someone reads this to him), then buried in exile somewhere, not American! Telling last time this happened, Sadam Husian, before him Hitler, before him Lennon. All started the same way. Don’t give in! Be active for your rights, they are attacking more then just one!

  15. BigC says:

Step by step, inch by inch, the usurper in chief takes away our freedom and forces HIS deluded version of what this Country should be down the throats of the American people. The saddest part is the number of sheeple willing to cave to this dictator!

  16. EK says:

Clearly the camel is trying to get in the tent via the top, bottom, sides, and any where else that they can get a ban going. When was the last time that you saw an M1 or Mauser or like relic used at a crime scene? If these guys worked for anything other than the US govt they could not keep a job based on merit or logic. So out of touch with reality.
